Dark clouds are gathering in the sky. Powerful winds whip through the trees, stripping them of their leaves and snapping the young branches. Heavy rains dump a deluge of water flooding the landscape and filling every crack of the parched ground.
A frightened young girl runs to her secret, private place. She hears a deep vibrating crack of thunder as it echoes across the heavens. Jagged streaks of lightning cut across the dark sky. At last, the frightened girl is safe…safe in her secure place of refuge. She is with her father.
Dark, threatening clouds of war, disease, rebellion, violence, and famine build on the horizon. The strong winds of godless, materialistic thinking are blowing through our land stripping away all lines of right and wrong and destroying the foundation for young lives to build on.
Satan’s furry lashes out across our world leaving destruction and ruin in its wake. The heavy rains of narcissism are washing away concern for others and leaving deep crevices of indifference, pride, and suffering.
The world’s situation can tempt us to fear, but we need to take the same action the young girl did in the opening scenario…go to our safe, secret place of refuge.
“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust” (Psalm 91:1-2).
